The first day they met was at Singing Beach Club in Manchester-By-The-Sea, where they were both working at the time. Their experience as coworkers was short lived, and it wasn't until a couple years later that they reconnected. Scotty was up in Waitsfield, Vermont (where Mere grew up skiing) playing his annual Local 28 gig at the Hyde Away Inn when Mere and her parents just so happened to stop by. They hadn't seen each other in years, but they instantly recognized one another. No words were exchanged that night other than a brief "I know you" accompanied by a shy smile from across the room. After the show (at which Scotty crushed his organ solos) they both went their separate ways. Two or three years later Mere was hanging out with her parents when they recommended going out to see "that Grateful Dead cover band from Hamilton" at Mile Marker One in Gloucester. Mere happily tagged along. As they walked into the venue, Mere noticed that cute keyboardist who kept randomly popping into her life, and decided to poke him as she passed. The poke didn't go unnoticed. Scotty came up to the Crofton crew when the show was over to give out hugs and have some "Scotty" laughs. Not too long after they found themselves drinking whiskey and laughing hysterically at the Lucky Dog until last call. After that night they came to an unspoken agreement that they were absolutely perfect for each other, and never wanted to spend their days apart.
