Though they both went to the same high school (3 grades apart), Jon and Mercelis didn't actually meet until they both worked at the commissary bagging groceries (lolol). Years later, Jon claims he never tried to approach Mercelis during those days because he didn’t want to be another “dude in line,” but he was definitely feeling the kid.
There was a day drinking event called Crushfest (R.I.P.) in which Jon and Mercelis both went but with different people. After feeling like 3rd wheels, they decided to hang out the rest of the time. A few weeks later, they had their first lunch date at Gringo's Taqueria and for the rest of the summer, were full-on dating. They met each other's families, spent many of nights at Chemistry; it was bliss.
After attending Mercelis’ friend's birthday party (shoutout to Baby Karen), Jon decided he didn't want to go another day without making it official so 8.30.14 to infinity and beyond!
It was a normal day of doing touristy things in DC while Mercelis’ mom was visiting. She would've never suspected that Jon was going to propose that day had it not been for her mom and friend Marsha (hey shawty) for exposing that she needed to get her “one broken nail” re-done. On top of that, when they got to the restaurant, Mercelis overheard the hostess mention something like "so you want it to come out with the dessert?" and that's when she knew it was about to go down. But Mercelis being Mercelis, she had to keep acting like it was a surprise otherwise it would've ruined the moment. A dessert, lots of tears, and a Louis Vuitton bag later, issa fiance 😊
