(English) James and Mercedes both began their journey at Rockford University in 2014, but their story didn’t begin in a classroom. It started on a dance floor. One evening, at a swing dance night hosted by a church (yes, really!), mutual friends introduced them. They shared a dance that was brief but surprisingly unforgettable. After that night, they went their separate ways… but clearly, the universe had other plans. Soon after, they realized they were both attending the same university. From then on, their paths crossed often. From late-night study sessions to countless group hangouts, they always just happened to end up next to each other. Little by little, a sweet friendship began to blossom. Somewhere between shared fries and sleepy library nights, James made the first move. On September 7, 2015, he asked Mercedes to be his girlfriend. She said yes… and that’s when the real adventure began. They’ve shared so many milestones since then, but what makes their story even more special is that they were each other’s firsts. First kiss. First relationship. First love. And now, ten years later, they get to be each other’s forever. And just when Mercedes thought James couldn’t surprise her after all those years… he did. On February 29, 2024 (yes, a leap day. Classic James!), he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Spoiler alert: she said yes again... So on September 7, 2025, exactly ten years after that first “yes,” they’ll say it again. Una noche, en un evento de baile swing organizado por una iglesia (¡sí, en serio!), unos amigos en común los presentaron. Compartieron un solo baile, breve pero sorprendentemente inolvidable. Después de esa noche, siguieron caminos separados… pero claramente el universo tenía otros planes. Poco después, se dieron cuenta de que ambos asistían a la misma universidad. A partir de entonces, comenzaron a cruzarse con frecuencia. Desde sesiones de estudio hasta altas horas de la noche hasta innumerables reuniones en grupo, siempre terminaban juntos. Poco a poco, nació una dulce amistad. Entre papas fritas compartidas y noches de biblioteca con sueño, James dio el primer paso. El 7 de Septiembre de 2015, le pidió a Mercedes que fuera su novia. Ella dijo que sí… y así comenzó su verdadera aventura. Desde entonces, han compartido muchos momentos importantes. Pero lo que hace su historia aún más especial es que fueron el primero del otro. Primer beso. Primera relación. Primer amor. Y ahora, diez años después, serán el uno para el otro. Y justo cuando Mercedes pensó que James ya no podía sorprenderla después de tantos años… lo hizo.
