To Mercy, Jared was simply a friend of her older brother—no one special. Though they’d see each other from time to time starting in elementary school (yes, they went to the same one!), it was in middle school where their friendship first began to blossom. Mercy, as president of the Chess Club, needed members: and Jared was one of the very few who joined. Bonding over chess matches and their favorite TV shows, it wasn’t until high school when Jared had the courage to ask Mercy to be his girlfriend. They’d eventually graduate, and attend college together at the University of North Texas. There, Jared would study History, and a year later, Mercy would join him as a major in Art History. Even in their respective fields, the two are inseparable! One evening, after a jazz concert on March 8th, 2026, Jared led Mercy through a sculpture garden. The fountains were broken—and the photographer was missing!—but despite the setbacks, Jared decided he had let Mercy wait long enough. It was there that he got on one knee, and asked Mercedes to spend the rest of her life at his side, as husband and wife.
