During our college years, we often frequented the same bars with our friends in Ames. Cody never quite worked up the courage to ask Emily out, but we stayed in touch and ran into each other often over the next several years. FINALLY, on September 14th, 2016, Cody asked Emily out and the rest is history. We have been together ever since. All those years in between allowed us to create a strong friendship and joy of being in each others company. Neither one of us would have imagined all those years ago, the love we would eventually share for one another.

We spent a long weekend in Malibu, California with Emily's family to celebrate her 30th birthday. The month of October had been dedicated to celebrating Emily with 30 special memories leading up to her birthday. Each day Emily would get a card from a family member with a special memory from one of her 30 years. On the last day, Nov. 2, the whole family was going to take a family picture before heading to dinner. Cody said that he had the last card of the 30 days of 30 celebration. Emily read it and at the bottom there was a hidden message which included a hangman with missing letters, something Cody has done in cards for Emily over the past 3 years. Cody got down on one knee and Emily said "YES"! That will be a memory neither of us will forget. #30HasaNiceRingToIt
