Question

What are the brides' pronouns?

Answer

Kylie she/her/hers Mena they/them/theirs

Question

Why do some folks use gender neutral pronouns?

Answer

According to the National Center for Transgender Equality, "Most people – including most transgender people – are either male or female. But some people don't neatly fit into the categories of 'man' or 'woman,' or 'male' or 'female.'" Mena does not identify as a 'woman' or as 'female', but rather non-binary, despite being feminine in appearance.

Question

How do I use gender neutral pronouns (they/them) in a sentence?

Answer

Mena is getting married and they are very excited to share this day with their family. Please respect them and make them happy by using their correct pronouns (especially on their wedding day)!

Question

Oops! I accidentally used the wrong pronouns. What should I do?

Answer

Simply restate what you said with the correct pronouns. It takes time, practice, and effort to get to a point where you can consistently and correctly use gender neutral pronouns. People make mistakes, but by recognizing that you did make a mistake and by taking the time to correct yourself, you demonstrate that you're making an effort.

Question

Why should I even try to learn how to use they/them pronouns?

Answer

Using someone's correct pronouns is a matter of basic respect. For example, if you're a man, how would you feel if most people called you "her" or "she", and consistently grouped you in with "ladies"? So please, PLEASE do your best to use Mena's correct pronouns and refrain from calling us (as a couple) "ladies". Thank you! -Kyle
