We met classically - on a blind date through a mutual friend. Neither of us went into the date thinking it would go beyond a one time occurrence. However, almost immediately, both of us noticed that something was different about the other. One date turned into many, and after taking our time enjoying getting to know each other and growing together, we've chosen to get married!
During Tyler’s spring break, we planned to drive to my Mom’s house 4 hours away for a fun weekend in Salt Lake. We planned to drive up together after going to our favorite restaurant in Saint George. After I got off work, instead of driving to the restaurant, Tyler started driving toward our favorite after date hang-out spot which was the “D” on the side of the bluff that is visible from almost every angle of the city. It was at the “D” that Tyler and I had our first vulnerable conversations together, and where we decided to officially commit to being each other’s girlfriend/boyfriend. I had a feeling he was going to propose that day- he had been acting especially happy and giddy the previous couple of days. When he started driving toward the “D” I felt ecstatic! But I held it in, just in case. When we got there, the rain had stopped. We hiked up to the “D”, and found our usual rock to sit on. Tyler handed me a Shutterfly book that he had put together that had 100 pictures of our dating experiences. At the end of the book was a picture of the ring I had designed, and some very tender words he had written. The rain started again, and he got on one knee and proposed! I said yes, and we made our way back down the bluff laughing together as we started becoming rain soaked and unsuccessfully attempting to avoid the mud that started to form. The experience felt perfect for us as a couple; and both of us look back on that memory with deep warmth and connection.
