Josh and Tara met in October of 2013 outside of Timber Creek High School. Tara was the Associate Band Director at Avalon Middle School and was waiting outside of the band room after a marching band rehearsal when Josh appeared, as he was the Percussion Director at Timber Creek. Josh had one of Tara's former students, and they sprung on a conversation about that student. They quickly became friends through band/working together. 4 months later, band brought the couple together. 8 years, 1 apartment, 1 townhome, 1 dog, 1 home, and 2 states later, it was time to get engaged. The Melvin's and King's were at Disney on December 23rd, 2021 for their annual family Christmas Disney Day. Josh was adamant on taking a family photo (which should have been the first tell, as Josh hates taking pictures!) and even scoped one out right in front of the big Christmas Tree in EPCOT. He left Tara to make sure the photographer could capture all of our big party, but really he was prepping him and letting him know that he was about to propose! We gather for the picture, and the photographer says "ok, any couples in the group? I have a special pose for you!" Josh quickly exclaimed "us!" and we came to the front of our family. Josh, being the jokster he is, quickly went into the "cheerleader" pose and as Tara's eyes rolled back down to him, he was on one knee with the ring. He said "I'm sorry it took this long, but if you haven't left me yet, would you spend the rest of your life with me?" Everyone cheered, cried, and hugged, all captured on camera by our Disney Photographer (and my brother). Only my brother and father knew. None of the moms! The rest is history, and the future :)
