Our Story

Long Distance Love

In the Christmas season of 2019 they were both invited to a white elephant gift exchange, and neither of them were told it was a white elephant party. As the only two without gifts they sat outside the group and started talking. They spent the whole evening joking and having fun, to the point where someone else asked how they knew each other and Ryan immediately responded "We're married." For the rest of the night they kept the joke going, interrupting each other to see if 'the dogs had been fed' or 'did you turn off the oven?'. They kept seeing each other, but there was a twist. Ryan's job was moving him across the country for a training program and would keep him on the move for the following 16 months. Neither of them was prepared for a long distance relationship, but neither of them wanted to stop talking. He moved to LA, she stayed in NYC with plans for her to come visit towards the end of March 2020. Queue global pandemic. While Melody historically hates talking on the phone they spent hours a day talking. Starting shows and movies at the same time so they could text their reactions. Sharing every detail of their anxieties about what was happening in the world, the struggles of isolation, and had the time to get to know the ins and outs of each others personalities. They became best friends, and even going months without seeing each other in person it never really felt like they were far away. In the fall of 2020 they both knew they were in love with each other, and they agreed that every step forward was working towards marriage. On Thanksgiving day, surrounded by friends, Ryan got down on one knee and popped the question. It was the easiest decision Melody ever made. Between Covid, exorbitant costs, and a generalized anxiety disorder they decided to do away with the pomp and circumstance of a traditional wedding and instead have an intimate elopement. Though already married on paper, October 23rd, 2021 is the day they will finally exchange their vows.
