How we met- Melody's side

Junior Year of High School (2011)

We had AP US History and AP calculus together in high school. I thought he was cute and funny and I needed a prom date! I found an excuse to text him about homework and then continued texting him. Little did he know, I was flirting with him. He was oblivious! So I told somebody I knew would tell him that I wanted him to be my prom date, and then he finally asked! I was so happy! We hung out a few times before prom including me forcing him to see a scary movie with me (I now understand how much he hates them!). He was so sweet and funny and treated me very well. Prom finally arrived and we had a great time all night dancing and hanging out. Then finally on that prom night he asked if I "officially wanted to date him" and of course I had to say yes! April 30th, 2011 was our official beginning! We have been together ever since and I grow to love him more every day <3

How we met- Nathan's side

Junior Year of High School (2011)

Melody and I met back in our junior year of high school, where we had calculus and US history together. From the very start she was able to make me laugh and would put a smile on my face at the end of the school days. About halfway through the year, she sent me a text asking what the homework was for our classes because she “forgot”. In retrospect, this text should have been deciphered as more than a mere casual, random text. This text came about 2 months before prom, and neither of us had dates at that point. I was oblivious. As prom approached, it began to dawn on Melody quite how incredibly unaware I was of the fact that she wanted me to be her date. She started informing people to directly tell me in the hopes that I would finally understand. Once word hit my ear I plotted a heart-warming prom proposal, involving a single rose, an Arnold Palmer Iced Tea, and a scribbled note asking Melody to prom on a sympathy card, thinking that would be hilarious. Why did she say yes? I have no clue. At the end of prom a month later, I awkwardly asked Melody, “Do you uh, want to uh, like officially go out now?”. 7 years later I get to marry the love of my life. Damn am I lucky she was persistent.

The Proposal

May 19, 2018

We ate brunch at Elmo's Diner in Chapel Hill with a couple of Melody's best friends. Nathan excused himself and Melody's friends hand her an envelope 10 minutes later. It is the first clue of a 10-clue scavenger hunt around Chapel Hill. Melody's friends drove her to each spot, hitting spots that Nathan and Melody have considered special over the years. Finally, the end was reached at the Chapel Hill arboretum next to the planetarium on Franklin Street with a beautiful blooming garden. That was where it happened! Nathan proposed and Melody said I DO!
