How They Met

Sweet Serendipity in Room 28

Our story began on November 12, 2019, when Shane brought a patient into the ER where I work. I directed him to room 28, and he mentioned to his partner Luis that they had been there several times that day. With my hand on my hip, in true Melissa fashion, I asked, "Do you have a problem with your room assignment?" Shane, caught off guard, fumbled with his words, smiled, and assured me that wasn't the case. That smile of his left quite an impression! As they headed to room 28 with their patient, I stood at the desk with a fluttering feeling in my stomach. Although we had met before and exchanged words, something felt different this time. I couldn't quite pinpoint it then, but it was unmistakably different. Apparently, Shane felt the same way because, before leaving the ambulance bay, he sent me a friend request on Facebook. I accepted, and our conversations blossomed from there. After chatting for several days, we decided to meet up for coffee. Over two hours, we laid everything out on the table – our past relationships, experiences, mistakes, and non-negotiables. We both committed to giving this a shot, while prioritizing a strong friendship. Our conversations became a daily routine, often lasting for hours, and we never grew tired of each other. Over four years later, we've kept our promise to be each other's best friend. Transparency and respect define our relationship. We share everything, make each other laugh, and love one another unconditionally. Even now, Shane continues to give me that butterfly feeling, and his smile melts my heart. I eagerly anticipate the day I can call him my husband, proud to be his wife.
