Melissa and Nate met in late 2016, but little did they know that meeting had been in the making for nearly two years! In March 2015 they were at the same silent disco party thrown by a mutual friend. They're posing in the same picture, on opposite sides of a big group but didn't meet that night. (Crazy!) Nate was actually at Melissa's house and on her roof for a shindig she threw in October 2015, and still their paths didn't directly cross. (Crazier!) It was wasn't until a mutual friend brought Melissa into Nate's gym for a workout that fate finally had it's way...kinda... Melissa had been planning to move back to Austin in the new year, and Nate was seeing another lady when they met, so their relationship began without agenda or expectation. But the two found themselves spending extra time together outside of class - heading to Kezar Stadium for track work outs and hanging back from the group after races for boozy brunches. When they discovered their birthdays were coming up and within a few days of each other, they decided to combine Melissa's love of costumes and party planning with Nate's sweet dance moves and DJ skills to throw a Great Gatsby themed bash for his 30th. Now, Nate, being the respectable gentleman that he is, wasn't overly eager to date a gal he met at his gym - the optics aren't ideal for someone growing a new business.
