We always recommend simply walking and exploring the Historic District. The cobblestone streets, pastel homes, hidden courtyards and centuries old churches are some of the most beautiful in the country. Along the way, you will also find incredible architectural details and local art galleries tucked into historic buildings which make wandering even more special. Do not miss The Battery, Rainbow Row and the many churches that tell so much of Charleston’s story.
If you love shopping, King Street is a must. It is filled with a mix of high end boutiques, small local shops and well known brands all in one walkable stretch. I, Melissa, could spend hours here just browsing everything from fashion to home stores to little hidden gems and it is one of my absolute favorite parts of the city. And if you happen to find a few extra things you cannot leave without, just consider it a good excuse to fit a little more in your suitcase on the way home.
One of our favorite things about Charleston is how incredible and diverse the food scene is. You can find everything from elevated Southern and fresh seafood to Italian, Asian, Mexican and more all within walkable areas downtown. It is truly a city where you can try something new every meal and still want to come back for more. King Street is especially great for this variety, with everything from casual coffee shops and brunch spots to date night restaurants and lively bars.
If anyone feels like venturing a bit outside downtown, we would genuinely love for you to see where we live in Park Circle. It is a neighborhood that means a lot to us, full of great local restaurants, breweries and a really fun, laid back energy. If you end up there, think of it as a little glimpse into our everyday life here and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. If you are looking for a bite while you are there, we love Lola’s, EVO, and Cuidad Bonita, which is the closest Melissa can get to Colombian home cooked meals. Odd Duck is another must try, everything there is delicious, and it also makes a great stop on your way to or from the airport if you want one last memorable meal in Charleston.
