How It Started

Of all the websites in all the world I'm happy you buzzed into my life

As many singles can tell you, the dating scene in the world today is, for lack of a better term, defunkdefied. We started as two strangers randomly swiping away on a little yellow app called Bumble. A couple of likes and some messages back and forth and the fishing line started tugging. This was the beginning of 2019. Like, January of 2019. I have a tendency to be distracted easily in life. Because of that, I sometimes forget to respond to people right away. Well, Bumble wanted to make sure they get paid so if you don't respond to a message within a certain amount of time the message disappears. Unless you want to pay, I don't know ... $1.25 to see the last message for a little longer. I'm not going to lie, I thought about not doing it. But that would have been financially smart, and I have a tendency to forego the brain for the heart. I am not ashamed to admit, I paid money so that I could finally ask him to start texting me. After many conversations, I finally worked up the courage to ask him out on a date. To Billards on Broad we headed to meet each other face to face for the very first time. I don't know if you have ever been a single woman at a bar before or not, but let me just tell you, it can be a little nerve-wracking. So, I did what any smart single woman would do. I asked two friends to go with me. "I just need you there, just in case." They were to stay at the bar while Brint and I sat at one of the tables. As soon as he walked in I don't think I stopped smiling until I fell to sleep that night. I could tell he was nervous, and I don't do well at hiding my nerves. Many laughs were had. I came clean about my two friends and introduced everyone. The four of us shared conversations and laughs for the rest of the night. One evening I had been out with some friends. On my way home I decided to call Brint. He was in Texas at the time for work so at least I knew he would be awake. I get home and we are still talking when I notice a package on my bed. I start to explain the situation to Brint. I tell him I don't remember ordering anything, and do you know this man just went right along with what I was saying. "Oh," he says, "Do you know who it could be from?" No surprise to you, dear reader, I had not the slightest idea. I tear into the package and a book falls out. I had recently told him about a favorite book of mine that I had loaned to a friend and had never gotten it back. "Wait," I say, "Did YOU send this to me?" he laughed and said yes. "OMG, Brint ... will you be my boyfriend?" Another laugh and, you guessed it, he said, "Only if you'll be my girlfriend." Awww.
