Brian and Melissa met online in March 2014. They spent a few days messaging, texting, and calling each other before deciding to go on their first date.

Brian picked Melissa up for their first date at her apartment in Fort Worth and took Melissa out to dinner at BJs Brewhouse. The original plan was to visit a fancy bowling alley after dinner, but it was booked up for the next few hours. Instead of waiting, Melissa told Brian about a hole in the wall bowling alley down the street. It was the exact opposite of fancy, but it was still a blast! They ended the evening with a kiss and proceeded to talk on the phone until the wee hours of the night.

Brian proposed to Melissa while they were seeing a double feature of The Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Coyote Drive-In Theatre in Fort Worth. It didn't go exactly as Brian had planned due to some unforeseen circumstances involving the Texas heat, swarms of mosquitoes, and the rude people who were watching the movie in the next car, but ultimately, Melissa was surprised as Brian got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife!
