We met as most fairytales do: on Tinder! Before that, Melissa saw AV interpreting for SF Pride in 2018 and was entranced as the beautiful soul signed a song. Melissa does not remember the song, only the way AV made her feel. AV was oblivious to her new stalker until they matched on Tinder. Our first date, AV invited Melissa to a Bay Area Asian Deaf Association (BAADA) event but she did not inform Melissa this was a family event. Melissa wore the most inappropriate shirt she owned, luckily she wore a cardigan to cover up! After that they met for drinks at Mad Oaks bar in Oakland. Melissa was eager to learn ASL and AV was an excellent teacher, and we felt a connection unlike anything we felt before. We began dating openly, both not ready for a commitment. To this day, we are both grateful for that 1 year of dating before becoming exclusive. We felt it was important to be individuals first, to fully understand ourselves before we lost ourselves in each other. This created a strong foundation that was unshakeable by the time we became official in January 2020. AV survived a Barbara Holmes (Melissa's mom) interrogation, and Melissa quickly immersed herself into Deaf culture and became fluent in ASL. AV moved into the world's tiniest studio with Melissa and her cat Momo. Melissa proposed in April 2021, to which the happy couple has been enjoying their long engagement, including 2 more fur babies, Jack Jack and Bosco! We are finally ready to be married! We can't wait to celebrate and party with all of you, and we thank all who send their blessing on our marriage and future!
