I was up in Flagstaff for the summer break visiting Adrian. We normally would spend Sunday's together as it was our only shared day off. Sunday, July 21st, he asked me if I wanted to go hiking and get a nice lunch together. I had not showered and since we were going hiking, I thought there was no need to because I would shower when I got home. We both got into our active wear and headed out. On our way to our hiking spot, he suggested coffee, so we stopped at Dutch Bros for our favorite drink. We got our coffees and were trying to decide where to go to eat. Adrian kept suggesting our favorite sushi spot, but since I was not dressed well, I kept adverting to different places. We ultimately decided on Filiberto’s, which we can both agree was a horrible decision looking back. After our "nice" lunch, we headed up to "The Edge of the World Trail." There, we saw so many gorgeous views on our drive. We listened to music, sang, conversed, and laughed the whole way there. It took an hour to arrive where he wanted to take me. When we reached our destination, we got out of the car and followed the path. It was a beautiful, sunny day. The skies were crystal clear and there was no one else out that day. We climbed up this huge boulder that had the most jaw-dropping view. I was staring out at it, taking in the beautiful trees and the little of what could be seen of the city. When I turned around, there was Adrian on one knee, shaking, he began reading to me this lovely speech he had written on his phone ending it with "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Mel. Will you marry me?" Ecstatically, I said "yes!" We continued exploring and taking various pictures. The day ended with us going home and getting ready to celebrate the engagement with dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant. It was a day I wanted to last forever, but I am more excited for the days that are to come for him and I, as we head towards our "Happily Ever After."
