We met downtown Grand Forks. If I do say so myself, we hit it off instantly. We grew closer and closer as friends and just ended up really infatuated with each other. We spent a lot of time sitting around just talking. We were figuring out what each other was about. Figuring out what our favorite colors, movies, and hobbies were. We spent a lot of time at the Ralph Engelstad Arena(still do!), a place of which we grew closer which was perfect in Nick's eyes. We began to date while both in Grand Forks. Nick had than decided to move back to Forest Lake, which began our long distance. That involved quite a few 2 AM train rides and late nights. Nick moved back to Grand Forks, we moved in together, and became fur parents to Finn.
Fast forward to 2016, we decided we were going to New York in the winter of '16 to see UND play in Madison Square Garden. We wanted to make this the trip of a lifetime, so that Nick did. :) Nick had planned every single part of this trip for us. We ventured to see New York from the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, climbed to the top of the Empire State Building, Ellen's Stardust Diner(home of the singing waiters!!) My personal favorite was our Broadway stops to Aladdin and Wicked. We had planned on skating at Rockefeller Center like all should do while in New York during Christmas time. Nick had told me he got us passes to bypass SO MANY people waiting in line to skate. We had been skating for about 45 minutes when the rink staff announced we would have to clear the ice for routine maintenance. Nick wanted to take a picture underneath the Christmas tree. We skated to an employee who would "take our picture." I say "take our picture" because he was really just distracting me from all the people clearing the ice to get Nick and I alone. Nick and I's song than began to play overhead, and I knew I was in this for the long haul. And in front of 100's of people, he asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. SPOILER!! I said yes. We spent the rest of the evening celebrating with friends in the heart of the greatest city. :)
