How We Met

I had just moved back to Wisconsin after spending time playing soccer overseas. While I figured out my next adventure, I decided to start working at a local coffee shop. I had envisioned a few months of being a "cool barista girl" and making lattes. Clearly I didn't understand the coffee shop ranks because I found myself wearing a hair net and making sandwiches in the back. There was one particular customer that came in frequently. One day, I mustered up the courage to say "have a nice day!" to him as he left with his white chocolate mocha. Noah here. Colectivo was my go-to coffee shop, so naturally I noticed when a pretty blonde girl started working in the back. I would go to the cafe and order a breakfast burrito hoping she would bring it out to me so I could strike up a conversation. One day as I was leaving, I heard someone yell, "have a nice day!" I looked behind me and it was none other but the pretty blonde girl. I sped straight to work and told everyone who would listen about this girl. Most people said that I didn't have a chance, but nonetheless, I pursued. I went back to Colectivo with my wingman of a sister, Mackenzie and introduced myself to Josee, the pretty blonde girl. And that's how we met.

The Proposal

We love spontaneity, random adventures, and wandering around the city with no agenda, which is why I am still not entirely convinced that Noah planned to propose on January 22nd, 2020. Okay, to be honest I wasn't planning to propose on that Wednesday night, but I had the ring and the blessing and I just couldn't wait any longer! I took Josee to the park where we went on our first date. I thought I had a genius plan. I asked to take an "artsy" photo of her with the city skyline in the background. I told her to turn around because it was a "really great angle" with her facing the skyline. While her back was toward me, I got down on one knee. I pictured her turning around and being completely surprised! What I didn't account for were the park lights and shadows. Josee was staring at the skyline while I was getting my "artsy shot," and saw my shadow get down on one knee. I'd be lying if I said I didn't hear her murmur the words, "oh no." After laughing and then saying "YES," we went to our favorite restaurant to enjoy a slice of pie and coffee before we called our family and friends. It was our little secret and it was perfect.
