On October 28, 2017, Melanie, Matt and Mary (sister to the bride) planned to go hiking at Devils Lake in Baraboo WI. Melanie is normally very excited to go hiking and loves to go to Devils Lake, but after a long week at school, Melanie did not want to go hiking. After some begging and whining, Mary was able to convince Melanie to go. Once at Devils Lake, the three begin their hike through the rocks and trees. After about 2 hours of hiking and lots of complaining by Melanie; Mary and Matt want to stop. Mel decide to get some pictures and starts setting up the camera. Matt pulls Mel to the side so they could get a few pictures together. As Mel is complaining about being in front of the camera, when she is normally behind it, Matt gets down on one knee. Melanie starts to say, "Wait! Stand up! What are you doing?" After that the tears began to flow and smiles grew bigger and bigger. Matt proposed to Melanie on October 28, 2017 in a beautiful place that now has more meaning to them then ever before.
