On Saturday, we will provide a shuttle service from the official hotel to the ceremony at St. Joseph and back. (Specific shuttle timing and location will be available closer to the event). Otherwise, the Friday welcome events, Saturday walking tour, reception, and Sunday brunch are all within walking distance of one another and the official hotel. As for getting to Seattle, flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is by far the best option. From there, it is about a 30 min car ride to the Seattle Aquarium/Pike Place Market/Downtown. We are designing the weekend so you shouldn't need to rent a car (though this can be conveniently done at the airport). Taxis, Lyft and Uber are all easily accessed at Sea-Tac and throughout the city.
While we're hoping for a sunny Seattle weekend, we didn't want to take any chances and all wedding events will be indoors or covered. However, if you're planning to explore the area further, it can't hurt to bring a raincoat, umbrella or boots. Outside temperatures will likely be in the high 50s to low 60s, so bring layers for any outdoor adventuring!
All kids who will be in Kindergarten in October and up are welcome! We, of course, love all of your littler ones too, but feel the weekend might be easier on everyone if all of the guests are a little more mature :) We're so excited to host the older kiddos and even have some special programming designed just for them!
We matched on Hinge! We were both living in New York City and met up for our first date on January 23, 2019 at a speakeasy called Angel's Share. We ended up chatting for almost 5 hours before we finally parted ways. Matthew's first impressions of Melanie: She was like sunshine embodied in a person. So beautiful inside and out. I felt so safe and warm in her presence. Melanie's first impressions of Matthew: He was a gentle giant both physically and spiritually. He was so tall and handsome but moved with such grace and tenderness and I knew from his Hinge profile that he was an extremely high achieving student and chef, but he spoke with openness, curiosity and was the best listener I'd ever encountered.
From Melanie: On our first date, we were talking about working in really intense, cutthroat industries - entertainment and fine dining. We both felt like we didn't fully align with the current cultures in our respective places of work. We both hoped to be in positions of leadership someday, and that when we were, we would like to do things differently. Matt told me that instead of yelling at his cooks to motivate them before service, he wanted to encourage them to do yoga or dance so that they felt calm or joyful going into a busy night rather than anxious and panicked. From Matthew: A few moments stand out in my memory but one was on our second date. She had just had her purse stolen while we were standing outside of a jazz club at 4 am and we were on our way to the police station to report the incident. I remember being aware of how utterly calm and practical she was in that moment. She immediately called her credit card company and had her cards canceled, let her roommates know what was going on and generally remained so poised throughout an incredibly stressful night. Once the whole ordeal was over, before she went home I offered her some cash just in case anything came up, since she still didn't have her wallet. She asked me "What would I need cash for?" and I jokingly responded that she might want a Twix bar on the way home, who knows? The next time we saw each other, she returned the cash back along with a Twix bar as interest! I was so smitten.
