They met at a friends Chiefs watch party and even though they had both been to these parties before, they had never met. Patrick moved to Kansas City the week before from St. Louis to accept a job offer. It was by coincidence that the day before they met, Melissa was on Facebook and Patrick popped up as people she may know and without a second thought she requested the friendship. After the game they all went out to celebrate the win and that's where they had their first conversation - at Johnny Kaws. The group decided to go to the next bar so Melissa and Patrick stayed back. Patrick mentioned to Melissa that she had Facebook requested him the day before and now he thinks she's a stalker. Melissa having no clue that it was him who she had requested to be friends with laughed it off. After running into each other a few more times over the next month Patrick finally asked Melissa on their first date, a run at Loose Park. It was the instant connection and friendship that sparked the relationship and there is no denying that the stars were aligned just right for the two of them to meet.

On a trip to see his brother in Asheville, NC they planned to hike Craggy Mountain at sunrise for a casual photo shoot. They woke up early, drove the 2 hour trip with very little sleep to hike the "Craggy Trail". After 3 miles of beautiful views they realized they were on the wrong trail. Deciding to try again, they hiked the 2 miles out and drove over to the real "Craggy Trail". After 1 mile in and talking with the locals they realized they were on the wrong trail again. Tired and sweaty they finally found the real Craggy Trail! Hungry and hot they hiked the 1 mile to the top of the Craggy Gardens eager to see the famous Rhododendrons they had read about. Almost to the top, there was a fork in the trail and a couple recommended they didn't go to the top but to go to the side trail since it had better views and was less crowded. So that's what they did. Once they got there the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains was unbelievable and made everything so worth it. Melissa being the photographer wanted to set up her tripod to take some pictures of the two of them. She started taking some timed pictures and and on the third try, Melissa ran back over to meet Patrick and when she turned to look at him to make sure he was smiling he was down on his knee. Thinking he had fell off the cliff, Melissa was in shock for many reasons in that moment! Patrick took her hand shaking and all and asked her to marry him. Shocked, happy, speechless Melissa met him down on his knees and gave him a hug and a kiss and said YES!
