I met our friend Amy about a year before meeting Melissa. Melissa however has known and loved Amy since middle school. We both came to Waco for Amy's graduation weekend. After spending the weekend together, learning that Melissa worked in the coffee business and had purple and blue hair, I was already head over heels and knew I couldn't leave that Sunday without asking for her "contact information". Yeah I asked for her number by saying "We should exchange contact information"... I'm glad she still wanted to date me after that.
I woke up at 4am that Saturday, 4 days before proposal day, to drive 5 hours to pick up the ring from my dad in Leesville, Louisiana. The ring was made in Louisiana with my grandmothers engagement diamond reset in a new ring i picked out. After a quick pitstop in Woodville, Texas to get a little speeding ticket, I got the ring at 10am and started my drive back to Austin to make it back before Mel got off work and was any the wiser. 4 days later, with the ring in my pocket, we started our drive to Dallas to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and see the Jonas Brothers live in concert. I told Mel I wanted to stop in Waco to start our anniversary celebration early and spend some time at some of our favorite places. We got breakfast tacos from Torchy’s and ate them at our favorite Waco coffee shop, Pinewood Coffee Roasters, just like we did the day I asked her to be my girlfriend. We then took a quick stop at Target to wander around and then it was time to go to Lover’s Leap at Cameron Park, where we first said I Love You and where I planned to ask her to be my wife. When we got there, a Waco Tour Bus had also just recently pulled up and I was freaking out a little bit because I didn’t want an audience for my proposal. We found a quiet corner of the park where the group could not see us and I asked her to open up my journal where I had written 2 years ago about the feelings I had before telling her I loved her, and another page where I had written 2 weeks ago about my feelings after asking for her parents’ blessing. I watched as she read through the pages and waited for her to finish, at which time I got down on one knee and said “Melissa Kathryn Weinman, will you marry me?”, through the tears she nodded and said yes, and then we hugged and spent 2 hours texting and calling all of you guys :)
