We met while attending Thiel College. JP played soccer, and because a few of Melaina’s friends were on the girls’ soccer team, we had known of each other for a while. One night during Melaina’s sophomore year and JP’s freshman year, we ended up at the same townhouse party. JP and his friend were on a nine-game beer pong winning streak (a detail JP insists be included), and after cheering them on, we started talking. From there, everything clicked, and we officially began dating on February 21, 2020. As our relationship grew, we found joy in sharing the things we love with each other. Melaina loved going to sports games with JP, and JP began seeing musicals that Melaina enjoys. JP embraced Melaina’s Greek culture, and going to church together became meaningful for both of us. We grew close with each other’s families, supported each other through new milestones, and stepped into adult life side by side. On June 29, 2025, JP proposed in a moment full of love and family. His father had been bravely battling cancer and was in hospice at the time. He encouraged us to take the next step, knowing we would build a beautiful life together. JP proposed just outside his father’s window at the hospice house, with both of our families gathered inside. It was intimate, emotional, and incredibly special. We are deeply grateful that his father was able to witness this moment before his passing, and it will forever be one of the most meaningful parts of our story.
