Our Sweet Journey Together

It all started with Skittles

We first connected on Bumble in June 2020, where we both swiped right. I remember thinking there was something different about this guy—he wasn’t being vulgar or overly flirty, so I wasn’t sure if he was interested in me at all. Instead, he would send me songs and suggest movies or TV shows for me to watch while the world was closed. I even told my best friend that I thought he was just putting me in the friend zone. We finally met in July, although with the pandemic, there wasn’t much open for us to do. (What a perfect time to start dating, right?) He drove all the way from Anaheim to Rancho Cucamonga, and when he arrived at my house to pick me up, he had my favorite bag of Skittles on the passenger seat. I like to joke that the best decision I ever made was getting into a stranger’s car because he had my favorite candy. We spent the day driving up and down Route 66, only stopping for In-N-Out, gas, and bathroom breaks at my house so I could check on my puppy. We drove around for eight hours, singing our favorite songs at the top of our lungs and getting to know each other in between. When he didn’t even hug me goodbye, I thought, “Yeah, he definitely doesn’t like me.” But soon after that, the flirting began, and the next time we saw each other, we watched one of my favorite Pixar movies, *WALL-E.* That night, he sealed it with a hug and a kiss, and the rest is history. Our relationship wasn’t easy in the beginning, but we learned what we needed from each other and eventually became a solid unit. Of course, I said “I love you” first, and he followed suit quite some time later. He quickly became my corgi Pepper’s favorite human—though he insists she loves me more. We’d video chat every night and see each other throughout the week, with Wednesdays and Saturdays becoming our regular days together. When we met each other’s families, everything clicked perfectly. My family adores him, and I love his family—we fit so well into each other’s lives. In the summer of 2022, he asked me to move in with him, and we quickly found our rhythm as a couple. I cook, and he does the laundry—definitely a win! In January 2024, he asked my parents for their blessing, and of course, they said yes. Then in July 2024, during a family trip, he proposed. The proposal was perfectly imperfect, as I, of course, started catching on because I tend to ruin all surprises planned for me. I had half my hair done and couldn’t stop crying, but in front of all my loved ones, I said yes!
