We met during the orientation weekend of our freshman year at Westmont College, the Saturday before classes started while getting settled into our dorms. When Megs and her roommate Jords explored the other dorm rooms in Clark Hall, looking to meet new people and make new friendships, the girls happened to walk into the dorm where Daniel and his roommate Noah lived. Daniel showed the girls a magic trick and the boys invited them to go rock climbing with them someday, which ended up being the next day, and the rest is history.
Although both Daniel and Megs wanted to take things slow, getting to know each other as friends before jumping into a relationship, that proved hard to do that as they grew to like each other more and more. It became clear to each other that they liked each other and they weren’t interested in dating other people, so they decided to make it official that they were dating.
The day started lazily, both Megs and Daniel waking up slowly and deciding what they wanted to do on their Saturday together in Santa Barbara. Daniel suggested that they check out the sale at Old Navy downtown in the late afternoon before heading back to the house for dinner at 6pm. Megs agreed and they had a wonderful time together. Little did she know, friends and family would be setting up for the engagement party that would follow the proposal at 6pm. On their way back to Daniel’s house, they stopped at Butterfly Beach to listen to the waves crash against the shore. Alrhough soothing for Megs and she could spend hours listening to the waves, Daniel had his eye on the clock, knowing that he would be proposing in 10 minutes, so he drove them back towards his house. Instead of going to the house, however, he took a turn towards Westmont’s campus. Thankfully they would often stop by Westmont to reminisce about their times in each of their dorms, so this wasn’t completely out of the ordinary. They arrived at Clark Hall, Daniel brought a golf cart to help them up the hill, since Megs was on crutches recovering from ACL surgery, and they drove up to their old dorms. The freshman seemed to scatter at the sight of them, as Megs and Daniel walked to the spot he would propose. With friends hiding with their cameras ready, Daniel went down on one knee and proposed to Megs who gave a very enthusiastic “Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!” The two hugged and friends came out to celebrate the start of their enagement!
