Listed below are a few of the closer things that you can do, mainly in Marathon, which is only a 20 minute drive from the island. Keep in mind that Key West is about 1.5 hour drive south, so you're within 1.5 hours to ALL the Florida Keys have to offer. If you're going to spend some time in the area we HIGHLY recommend driving down to Key West for a day or night if you've never been. Great shops, places to eat and drink, and the Dive Bars are a must! If you have questions about these places let us know. Ryan has pretty much done most of it and it wouldn't be on here if it wasn't worth it!

Dolphin Research Center

Wanna pet a dolphin? Or swim with one? I should note, they DO offer this at the resort as well, but this place has a TON of dolphins and it's really a great time. They have different levels of interaction with the dolphins so make sure to call and tell someone "I WANT TO SWIM WITH ONE" and they'll take good care of you. This place is cool though - even if you don't want to swim. They actually filmed flipper here!

Sombrero Beach

If you're looking for a beach, this is the one you want. Sombrero beach is BYO chair/towel/etc., but it's the sandiest beach you'll find within miles - the perfect beach day spot!

Island Fish Company

12648 Overseas Highway, Marathon, FL 33050

Amazing breakfast and lunch! Waterside. No beach but has a bunch of docks and you can't beat the view. It's one of the closest to Hawks Cay once you enter Marathon, and one of our MUST GO TO's for a good Bloody Mary and breakfast.
