We met at a Happy Hour at Wild Wild West dance hall in June of 2013. I had just moved to Houston, and my friend Jessica suggested I join her Rodeo committee to meet people and network. Lance and I were both seeing other people when we met, and became good friends. We would have dinner every couple of months to catch up, and on occasion Lance would ask me out on a date, but the timing was never quite right. On our last volunteer shift of Rodeo season in 2016, we all went to Stockman’s Bar to celebrate and Lance and I spent the entire night talking and dancing and falling head over boots for each other.
It was love at first sight - Meghan just didn't know it for 3 years.
It was St. Patrick’s Day and Lance told me he had a Cool Bus ride that night so I had planned on spending the day at Rodeo to celebrate my friend Tori’s birthday. Lance and I ran a few errands that morning like any other Saturday. We went home and got ready and Lance took a fake phone call in the hallway to make it sound like his ride for the night had been cancelled. He said since the ride was cancelled, we could ride up to Rodeo together and stop by another friend’s party for a bit before I met up with the girls. He was rushing us to leave because I was running behind, which didn’t throw me off for a second because that is the norm for us. We got up to Rodeo and he had arranged for a golf cart to take us up to the arena to Stockman’s Bar where we had fell in love 2 years before that. I thought we were there for a mutual friend’s party so the flowers on the table and a bunch of our friends being there didn’t seem strange. They played a few of our favorite songs and we danced a few times. Then they played Neon Moon, which was the first song we ever danced to together. After the song started to end, the music died down and Lance started telling me sweet nothings about how much he loved me and before I could realize what was happening, he was down on one knee, and I couldn’t say ’YES!’ fast enough!
