First Date

February 18th, 2016

In typical MJ fashion, she tried to play too-cool-for-school upon KJ's first spontaneous attempt to get her on a date after a month of off and on texting. It was KJ's mid-winter break, which translates to, "fit six months of relaxing and self-care practices into one week." KJ was headed to Golden Gardens for an afternoon beer and bonfire. I mean-- sounds amazing, right? Something you need to know about MJ, SHE HATES TO BE COLD. So she said no because she had some movies to watch. It was a windy day and KJ was having a hard time getting the fire to light. When MJ said she wasn't interested, she just chilled and sipped her beer. Then all of sudden MJ said she was on her way! KJ frantically got the fire to start just in time. MJ, wearing her bomber jacket and red beanie, made her way down the beach for what felt like a ten-minute walk and that was that, instant connection. Somehow through talking KJ mentioned she had never been to Costco and seeing as this is MJ's favorite place on Earth, this caused an issue for her. So she remedied by taking KJ and buying her toilet paper, what a great first gift! It was love at first hand hold.

The Proposal

December 15, 2017

At the end of KJ's teaching semester, we had planned a weekend getaway on the island to catch up on some much needed together time. The morning started like normal, rushing to the ferry to ensure a walk for coffee. We made our way through the shops and back to the boat. Once on board, we grabbed our coffees and made our way to the top for skyline photos and the typical goofiness. KJ remembers boomerangs of heel-clicks and cartwheels and MJ remembers freaking out. Once the boat started to move, we made our way to the back left corner of the boat to enjoy the ride. The funny part of the story is when MJ said to KJ, "tell me something." KJ went on this long morbid "Meredith Grey" tangent about when she rides the ferry she thinks about the ways she would survive a crash or a plunge into the cold water. Would she swim backstroke to protect freezing her lungs, or froggy style to move faster. She went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on......... At this point, KJ still doesn't know and MJ doesn't know how to get out of this moment. Then all of a sudden, MJ says, "I got you something," and is down on one knee. All KJ could see was her dream ring as she melted to the ground to join MJ. The words that were said at the moment, neither one of us can remember, but the landscape and moment said it all.
