Please No More Gifts

Hello everyone! We are currently full in our apartment from all of the wonderful gifts from our showers we have received. Instead of purchasing something we ask to please give money/check to help with our honeymoon or a down payment on a house. That would help us a lot. We can’t wait to celebrate our day with all of you.

How We Met

06/22/2016

We were working together in Hawaii on the NCL Pride of America. I had the lucky fortune to train Derek as an assistant waiter. At the time, I wasn't romantically attracted to Derek. But, he said he spent the week "looking at your butt" and was hooked. At the end of his 5 month contract, Derek wasn't planning on returning to the ship. But, he wanted to give it one last shot. He had planned on giving me distance and seeing how things went. Through pure luck, we had cabins right next to each other. As soon as I saw him, I realized how much I missed him and that I loved him.

The Rollercoaster

Will she? Won't she?

We traveled Europe during the break between our contracts. While in Germany, Derek proposed in the hotel room after a night on the town. After returning to the mainland, we began planning a fancy expensive wedding for October. However, due to the stress of living together for the first time and wedding planning, I called it off. I even broke up with Derek after Christmas. After spending time apart, I realized I couldn't live without him. Taking another leap of faith, Derek proposed again in Chicago. Now, we're planning a low key event, focusing on the celebration with our friends and family.

Wedding Planning

Even a small wedding is stressful.

I knew what the theme and colors of my wedding would be since I was 18. My mom always called me her little peacock because of my loud and colorful personality (shocking right?). At 20, I got my first tattoo, a peacock. I had this picked out for a few years. Since then, I was hooked. I wanted everything peacock themed. Starting with my wedding all the way down to my bathroom decor and my fancy china set. I did not hire a professional wedding planner. My wedding planner was the woman who birthed me. I drove her insane and caused many arguments and mental breakdowns because I was a terrible bride. By terrible, I do not mean that I was a “bridezilla.” In fact, I was the complete opposite, I had no direction or opinions. I was very persistent and had strong opinions about certain things. Probably about 20%. The 20% knew which colors, attire, and food she wanted. The other 80% wanted to wing it and let other people make the rest of the decisions. My poor mother slaved away working a full time job, renovating her kitchen, training for a half marathon, and planning my wedding. She is responsible for the food, decorations, flowers, and the small details I never even thought about. Without her, this wedding wouldn’t be possible. Which is why you will see not only my dad, but my mom, walking me down the aisle. The two of them had a hell of a time raising me.
