While working in public relations at Baystate Medical Center, Brendan was searching for positive patient stories to share with the press. Though he didn't quite know what child life specialists do, he reached out to see if they could help think of inspiring kids who would want to be publicized.  That's when Meghan and Brendan met.  Brendan learned that child life specialists educate and advocate for children and families while helping them maintain normalcy in the confusing hospital environment. Meghan learned that her career was much different than the news business and corporate public relations.  Over time they grew closer together and developed a mutual passion for helping the fulfill dreams of hospitalized children. Early on in their relationship, Meghan shared with Brendan that she had a dream of visiting Banff National Park in Canada. In December of 2019, Brendan surprised Meghan with a planned trip to travel to Banff for a week of skiing and exploring the beauty of Banff. In February of 2020, they traveled to Banff (just weeks before travel was cut off!) where Banff lived up to all of Meghan's expectations and more! Brendan had planned each detail of the week including a beautiful hotel on a nearby mountain that was accessible by a gondola that stopped running over night. After surviving being stuck on a mountain with no escape for three days, Brendan must have felt confident to continue with his plan. They ventured on to their next hotel in the heart of the cozy town of Banff. On February 15th (to avoid a Valentine's Day proposal) Brendan and Meghan spent the day ice skating on the World Famous Lake Louise and hiking the Johnston Canyon Icewalk. Despite the beautiful scenery, Brendan wanted to find a perfect spot. They returned to Lake Minnewanka, a peaceful spot they had explored on their first day in town, to escape the tourist crowds in town. As Brendan was encouraging Meghan to pose looking at the mountain while he "took a photo" he was down on one knee waiting for Meghan to turn around! Thankfully, she said yes!
