Nature in the City
Great spots to hike or walk in the city: Forest Park, Marine Drive Trail, Mt. Tabor Park, Powell Butte, Cathedral Park & the St. Johns Bridge. Other notable parks: International Rose Garden, Japan Garden (entry fee), Grotto (fee), Rhododendron Garden (fee), Peninsula Park rose garden. Watch the sunset at Skidmore Bluffs.
Nature near the City
The Columbia River Gorge: Close to Portland and full of waterfalls and gorgeous hikes. Look into Wahkeena, Wahclella, Multnomah Falls, Horsetail, Latourell. Also, Sherrard Point on Larch Mountain is a great viewpoint nearby. The Coast: Check out the beaches and seaside towns in Canon, Astoria, and Manzanita. Mt. Hood: Tons of hiking and the Timberline Lodge is a great spot for views / food. Other hiking areas: Silver Falls State Park, Ape Caves, Saddle Mountain. Other areas to explore: Hood River, Bend, Seattle, Scappoose Bay, wineries in the Willamette Valley.
