We first met in high school—of all places, the athletic trainer’s office. Meggan had just torn her ACL playing soccer, and Jacob was there supporting a friend who had the same injury from football. After Meggan's surgery, when she was feeling far from her best, Jacob kept showing up with his usual kindness and sense of humor. Our friends were the first to notice the spark between us and nudged us toward something more. Eventually, we listened—and we’re so glad we did. Fun fact: Our first three dates were all at the movies. Clearly, we liked each other—and popcorn.
After more than seven years of dating—and two years of sharing a home and a dog—Meggan was (not-so-patiently) waiting for Jacob to pop the question. We had a long-standing deal: when Jacob finally bought his dream car, a 1968 Mustang, he’d better come home with a ring too! A month after he got the car, we left for a family cruise. Meggan specifically said she didn’t want the proposal to happen on the trip… so naturally, Jacob didn’t listen. One evening, just before dinner with everyone, we found a quiet spot at the front of the ship during sunset. It was just the two of us when Jacob finally got down on one knee and asked the question. Meggan’s pretty sure she blacked out from excitement of saying yes—but luckily, Jacob had secretly recorded the whole thing!
