In July 2019, both of us started at Emory Medical School. Dan was sad to be leaving his hometown of Pittsburgh for the first time, and Megen was returning to hers. The two of us met early on actually, having been in sister small groups and paired together for our community service project class. We were also both Team C anatomy people with tables close by, and Dan would often hear Megen's robust laugh echoing off the cadavers. We had a solid friendship foundation, but no special connection, and then the Covid pandemic ground our med school routine to a halt and turned us into online students. During the pandemic, we both lived alone a short distance from one another on the Beltline, and, both desperate for human connection, would often run into each other on walks. Eventually these walks started to become more planned and to last a little longer, and we also ended up taking the same yoga med school class together. Then came a cold and rainy day when Megen got a flat tire, and with Triple A hours away and a small group to attend, she called Dan for help. So Dan, full rainsuit on, came to the rescue, and Megen thought to herself, "you know, this guy's not so bad looking, and he can change a tire!" Then just a few weeks after that, Dan's car battery died after one of their yoga classes, and, determined to fix it himself, Megen accompanied him all over the city to acquire tools, get the battery charged, and then eventually purchase a new battery anyway. And Dan thought to himself, "she's kinda cute, and she doesn't seem to mind tagging along on my misadventures!" Well the walks continued, giving us a chance to talk more and get to know one another in a way we hadn't before, and then came some ambiguous dates that weren't being called dates, before finally Megen said, "look buddy, you better take me on a real date." Thankfully Dan listened, and whisked Megen away to Rina, which was followed by more dates, trips to Asheville and Pittsburgh, birthdays and holidays, and much, much more to come!
