How We Met: Both Sides of the Story

Chris: I was at a midtown bar for a work event when I noticed this beautiful, brunette server walking past. I thought “wow she’s gorgeous” so then thought “I have no shot.” Shortly after grabbing a table I heard “Hey guys, I’m Meg. I’ll be helping you out tonight.” I looked up to see that same brunette talking right to us! The night went on and I couldn't stop noticing Meg. Finally, I asked (begged) a coworker to be my wing-woman and talk to Meg for me. I got the “thumbs up” and with a flip of the hair and puff of the chest, I started talking to her every chance I could. The night wound down and the only thing between me and the best night ever was getting Meg’s number. After 2 long minutes of me dancing around the question, Meg said something I’ll never forget: “So do you want my number or…?” Six unforgettable years later, I couldn’t imagine saying no. PS: I say “brunette” because Meg was brunette then. When we met up a few weeks later she was blonde and I walked right past her! Meg: It was a standard weeknight when a woman about my age introduced herself, pointed out her guy friend, and politely asked that I go make an introduction. In my stint at unnamed midtown bar, I made it a point to enjoy my time at work. I agreed to say hello, under one circumstance: I'd make it fun. She gave me an inside joke, I said it in front of his friends, and I had him apparently hooked for the remainder of the night. By "hooked" I mean he was having a blast, and somehow managed to be wearing a costume (think apron, wig, the whole bit). He stumbled his way through asking for my number (“I’m from Westchester…you’re from Dutchess...”) and I agreed - he was hysterical. We hung out 3 times in the first week, and it became obvious that I was the one who was hooked. Then, after a move to Chicago for a quick 5 months (JK – this felt like a century), and a serious park bench conversation, we decided to give this thing a real try. That decision was easily the best decision I ever made.
