Our wedding venue is located in the Bywater, but if you have time, we highly recommend grabbing a to-go drink and wandering around these neighborhoods (our favorite place in the city). You can walk around and look at the colorful houses, visit Crescent City Park or check out Studio Be. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and coffee shops, too.
Magazine Street stretches through Garden District and Irish Channel neighborhoods and is one of the best streets for shopping, eating and drinking. There are tons of local boutiques and shops to check out (Funky Monkey and Lionheart prints are two favorites), along with some of our favorite places to eat (Dat Dog!). Our favorite stretch is between Louisiana and Washington Aves.
Though you'll be able to catch live music almost anywhere you go, Frenchman Street is a must-visit. You'll be able to find music there any time of day, but we recommend going at night, walking around with a drink and checking out the Art Market that stays open most nights until midnight or later.
If you're planning to spend a few extra days in New Orleans, a swamp tour is a great way to spend a couple hours and see some gators and other wildlife. Believe it or not, the swamps here are pretty cool. There are lots of options, but we've been on a few swamp tours with visitors through Honey Island Swamp Tours, which we definitely recommend! It's about a 40 minute drive from downtown and they can arrange for your transportation if you don't have a car.
Audubon Park is a beautiful park located in the Uptown area of New Orleans, great for walking or biking around. If you find yourself there, definitely check out the Tree of Life for a good photo opp. If you're staying downtown or in the French Quarter, you can even take the street car there and check out St. Charles Ave. on the way!
