A Modern Fairytale

The Swipe Was Right

The story of Megan and Steven writes like your classic love story, a fairytale full of whimsical magic straight from a Shakespearean sonnet. There they were, swiping away aimlessly on the dating app Hinge, hoping to find someone and something real. And then, one fateful February evening, it happened: Meg stumbled upon Steve's profile and could not take her eyes off of his pictures (she did have to decipher who he was because he was a big fan of group photos) and Steve, likewise, was struck by Meg. The two "matched" and soon bonded over their love of tacos, travel, and always yearning for the next adventure in life. The first chapter of their story had just begun. Meg and Steve had to wait for two weeks before actually meeting in person as Meg was on a New York to LA work trip. It seemed like forever but finally, on a chilly March afternoon, the two met (naturally) at KC Taco Company. Although it would be weeks later when Steve would tell Meg he loved her, she almost had him at her first words to him, "a kid bit my arm on the streetcar". One margarita led to another one, and the conversation unfolded and felt almost too easy and natural (although Meg will tell you that Steve seemed quiet; could not have had to do with the fact Steve was howling at the moon at an Eric Church concert the night before). Meg wasn't sure if Steve actually liked her after that first date, and texted him approximately 8.5 minutes after they left to see if Steve wanted to see her again... Fast forward to December 4th, 2020...Overland Park Botanical Garden...Christmas lights display...and silly Meg thinking that she was just going for a walk in the woods with Steve and their friends Kate and Adam. In the aptly named "Whispering Woods" section of the garden (Steve still needs to write an apology letter), Meg let out a shriek that would wake the dead as Steve dropped down to a knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. So...maybe not your classic love story, but it's ours!
