How Megan met Stephen

Our Story

In the Spring of 2018, I had the urge to start biking again. It had been years since I went on a long distance bike ride. So, I got on Craig’s List, bought a used bike and was ready to ride! Unfortunately, my new adventure began with bike issues. The bike was slow and clunky. That’s when I met Stephen. He was behind the counter of a local bike shop. I explained to him my bike woes. He sympathized very little and basically told me he could tune it up, but that it may not be worth the trouble. (A very professional way of saying that my bike was "a piece of junk")! My dreams were crushed! I gave him a little attitude, walked out with my cheap bike and gave up. Fast forward to October 2019. I decided to start dating again. I downloaded Hinge and went on a couple of bad dates before I connected with Stephen. On our first date, we met at a Mexican Restaurant called La Sirena. We were nervous at first, but the longer we spent talking the more comfortable it became for us. He seemed so familiar. Like I had met him before. Was it his kind and gentle spirit that made made me feel this way? The beautiful night? His handsome face? His beautiful blue eyes? I continued to feel so relaxed with Stephen as we continued to date the next several weeks. When it finally dawned on me that I had met this guy before... and thought that I didn't care if I saw him again, we laughed! We are so glad for second impressions, second chances! Now, Stephen lets me borrow his really nice bikes. (His family owns the bike shop)! I can finally go on long bike rides again, but with HIM! And even better live life with him, together, forever. Other things we love to do together: assemble bikes, yoga classes, Words with Friends, taking Elton to the dog park, eating in, eating out, cooking, grocery shopping, spending quality time with our families, going to church, traveling to see friends, hosting a party, skiing (I am trying!), and just being together.

The Proposal

On May 29th (after a long COVID shelter in place lock down), Stephen made reservations for two at our new favorite pizza place, Burkleehill Vineyards in downtown Lubbock. He picked me up at 6:30 and drove the long way to get there. When we finally arrived he said we still had time to kill, "so, lets take a walk". It was a lovely evening, why not? The Lubbock Court House was just a block away. Stephen led me to a cute little white gazebo on the Courtyard lawn. Then, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was stunned by my gorgeous ring! He designed it just for me! (Oh, and I said YES)! Next, our families came out of the bushes and behind walls to congratulate us! After taking a bunch of pics, Stephen and I walked back to Burkleehill to enjoy the rest of our evening. A memory I will cherish for a lifetime!

COVID-19

Part of our story whether we like it or not

We understand that COVID-19 will play a role in our wedding as well as for each of our guests. We respect any decline due to the pandemic. At this time, Lubbock TX has no restrictions. Our wedding ceremony and reception will be held outside in our-soon-to-be backyard. Guest count is 50 including wedding party . If anything unforeseen changes, we will communicate as soon as possible. Our wedding will be videoed and we will share on Facebook as soon as it is available.
