How We Met

Simon and I met before classes started at Rockhurst University Freshman year Fall of 2011. We both had signed up for on campus jobs to be desk assistants at the residence halls and had to be on campus a week early for training. I remember meeting Simon during a training session and thinking, "He's dorky, but kinda cute." We exchanged numbers and would meet up to play ping pong at the residence hall and every now and again we would sit with each other during our late night desk shifts. We stayed good friends that year but both dated different people. Sophomore year our friendship grew stronger because were both RA's in the upperclassman Residence Hall named XL. We became best friends along with our friend Zack Zakibe, having late night chats and playing ping pong in the lobby of XL.

Friendship to Dating

I had invited Simon to a sorority formal in the Winter hoping to move our friendship into a romantic relationship. I dropped little hints here and there and even held his hand at the formal. Clueless, Simon didn't catch my hints and I thought he wasn't interested. I had decided to just stay friends with Simon when Summer of 2013 rolled around and we found out we both were offered (along with Zack) on campus jobs where we would spend our summer at Rockhurst. After many summer nights spent together, Simon had finally decided to ask Zack for advice about dating me. Zack of course said something along the lines of, "I knew it!" and "it's about damn time!" So one night Simon took me to Sonic for one of many summer shake nights and asked me on our first date. (He was so nervous he had missed his turn on the way home. ) When I said, "Yes!" and asked where and when, he had no answer because he thought I was going to reject him!

Our First Date

Our first date was at the I-70 drive in to see the latest Superman film. We took the ole' Volvo 940, which if you know Simon, you know that was his baby... that had no air conditioning. Thankfully, it was a breezy summer night in July. The movie was awful, but we made fun of it and had great conversation anyways. Simon had brought popcorn, every movie theater candy you could think of, and a cooler full of drinks. He was nervously eating for half of the movie, then he finally calmed down and held my hand. It was a sweet night that we will always cherish. In August of 2013 we became official and have been together ever since!

The Proposal

Simon and I graduated from Rockhurst in 2016 and decided to get an apartment together. The last two years have been spent making happy memories there with our dog, Murdoch. We decided we were ready to leave the apt life and buy a house together this past Spring and on July 5th, 2018 we signed for our first house together. Little did I know, Simon had even bigger plans for that day. We went to brunch at my favorite spot, The Classic Cup, on the plaza then headed to the house. I took one step into the front door and saw a beautiful bouquet of roses and a box with a handwritten letter with "Megan" on top. I reach down for the letter and when I turned back around to look at Simon, he was getting down on one knee to pop the questions. Needless to say I broke into tears and said, "YES!"
