Some love stories begin in candlelit restaurants or chance encounters on a train. Nikhil and Megan's began hunched over a microscope. They met as histology lab partners during their first year of medical school. Somewhere between the slides of tissues and the shared stress of not knowing what they were looking at, they kept finding reasons to talk. Outside of school, Nikhil and their friends hung out to introduce Megan to Bollywood movies. Friendship quietly became something more during the last place anyone expected to fall in love: the COVID-19 pandemic. They were quarantined in different cities- Nikhil in College Station and Megan in Houston. Despite the distance and isolation, their connection grew deeper over Zoom calls that ran too long and late nights watching movies on "Netflix Party". A couple months later, Nikhil finally asked Megan on their first date where he made spaghetti at his apartment. Their relationship was just beginning to blossom when they were assigned to different cities for clinical rotations- Nikhil in Dallas and Megan in Temple. They took turns making that drive back and forth down I-35 and counting down the days to the next visit. Then residency arrived and sent them to different cities yet again- Megan in Austin for pediatrics and Nikhil in Houston for family medicine. They learned each other's schedules and held on through the grind of becoming doctors while also growing as a couple. It wasn't always easy, but it was always worth it. Five years later, Nikhil finally asked Megan to marry him in Banff, and she said yes. One pandemic, two cultures, three years of residency after four years of medical school, and more miles than either of them cares to count. All of it led here. And the best part?
