Iowa State Fair
The Iowa State Fair is by far our favorite end of summer event in Des Moines! We are lucky enough to have the Fair going on the week before our wedding! They have everything from a cow made entirely of butter to the most amazing fried food on a stick you can find. If you have the time you should definitely check out everything the Iowa State Fair has to offer!
Adventureland Park
Adventureland is the amusement park/waterpark that is right next to Prairie Meadows. There is a lot to do at Adventureland and a ton of fun rides. There is also a waterpark connected to the park where you can cool off. If you have the time we totally recommend taking a trip over to Adventureland!
Prairie Meadows Casino, Racetrack, & Hotel
Our reception is at The Meadows, which is connected to the Prairie Meadows Casino. So go gamble a little bit and watch some horse racing, it is super fun!
Pappajohn Sculpture Park
If you have the time to take a trip to downtown Des Moines, the Pappajohn Sculpture Park is a great attraction to stop and see! The sculpture park has beautiful sculptures and wonderful places to relax in the heart of downtown.
Science Center of Iowa & Blank IMAX Dome Theater
The Science Center of Iowa is located in downtown Des Moines. The Science Center is a wonderful place to check out, especially if you have kids! There is a lot to learn at the Science Center and there is always something going on. If you have time, go check it out!
Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden
The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is a truly beautiful place located in downtown Des Moines! If you love beautiful flowers and plants this is the place for you!
Blank Park Zoo
The Blank Park Zoo may be smaller than most zoos but it definitely has character! You can go through this zoo in a couple hours but there are some pretty cool animals to see while you are there. If you have the time, we recommend you check it out!
Brewing Companies in Des Moines
There are several really great Microbreweries to try out in Des Moines, including Exile, Confluence, Court Ave Brewing Co, and Peace Tree Brewing Co. There is also the Iowa Tap Room in downtown Des Moines that exclusively serves Iowa beers! So if you have any free time these places would be great to check out!
