The One With The Proposal

All summer, I kept trying to make it out to Ocean Shores to catch a sunrise or sunset—but every single time, it never worked out. It was always pouring rain or completely overcast. The day before we left for Hawaii, Martin asked my mom, my dad, and my stepdad for their blessing. I had no idea at the time, but he already had a plan—he was going to propose at either sunrise or sunset. When we landed in Hawaii, our Uber driver mentioned the Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail. I didn’t think much of it. Honestly, I brushed it off, mostly because Martin doesn’t hike, so I wasn’t expecting us to go there at all. But the morning after we arrived, we woke up at 4am. He said, “Let’s go watch the sunrise,” and before I knew it, we were at the trailhead. As we started walking, I remember thinking to myself, “Wow… this would be such a nice place to propose.” And then it happened. He got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. He didn’t say anything—no speech, no big build-up. Just that moment, the sunrise, and us. And somehow, it was perfect.
