On September 6, 2019, Luke’s client relations manager, Sasha, had scheduled a happy hour with the “Gattis Girls”: Brooke and her daughter Kaila, property managers who had a great relationship with the law firm and who Luke considered friends, having known them for many years. In typical fashion, the law firm was showing appreciation to its valued partners with booze and food, this time at Guadalajara in Memorial City, right next to the firm’s office. It was sure to be a fun girl’s night out! However, a couple of hours before the appointed time, Brooke told Sasha that Kaila could not make it and asked if she could bring her other daughter instead. Sasha texted Luke wondering if it would be worth agreeing to, after all, the other daughter was not a manager who could promote the business with clients. Perhaps rescheduling when Kaila was available would be the better move. Fortunately, in 2019 Luke was living an unencumbered, carefree life in the comfort of his parent’s home, and really enjoyed margaritas and meeting new girls. The reply to Sasha was quick: “Tell Brooke to come on and bring her other daughter, I’ll walk over after the gym and enjoy the girls’ night too”. Megan, at 27 years old (for the next 22 days) was excited to “crash” a girl’s night, in place of Kaila. It was on the way to the restaurant that Megan was informed that Luke would be attending said girls’ night. She thought “Weird, it’s a girl’s night. But whatever, I’m going for the margaritas.” Shortly thereafter a freshly showered Luke with blood-pumped arms would stroll up to a table and take a gander at the crowd: Sasha, Brooke, Kaila (she came after all), and someone else… Megan sees this man, incredibly fit/muscular walking toward their table. She asks her mom “Is that Luke?” as he goes to hug Kaila, Sasha and Brooke. She then turned to her mom and said “Uh-oh. I’m in trouble.” Unbeknownst to her, Luke had the same reaction. “I’m in trouble”. “Where has this one been hiding?!” Luke already knew many of her family members; and yet, after years of wandering, after misfires, failures, and hardships, God finally decided that Luke was ready to meet Megan. All that wandering was mere preparation; there were no misfires, just misfits; not failure, but fortune; and all that hardship had only forged a longing, for something real. After hardships, and being lost herself, Megan was surprised to find the man who would become her best friend, confidant, advisor, protector, and love of her life. In the hours that followed, a vague familiarity seemed to grow swiftly into close comfort. Not just a beautiful girl with a great family, Megan was unique and strong willed, with an intriguing mind, and, well… sometimes there’s just that tug when you look in someone’s eyes and don’t want to look away; your heart swells and there’s warmth on the soul. That night had to end, but when those eyes are gone you just want more. In true Luke fashion, he set his sights on the prize and was captivated, excited and, for the first time in a long time, hopeful. Megan and Luke exchanged information. Both were hopeful and curious if they would hear from each other soon. Megan didn't have to wonder very long. The very next day, Luke called. They have been inseparable ever since. Now, after years of driving back and forth from Kingwood to Katy every other weekend, after falling in love with each other’s treasured dogs, after clearing the friends and family checks, buying a house and moving in together 4 years later, through the ups and downs, here we are. As we celebrate our wedding surrounded by our treasured friends and family, we remember that while there is more to our story, the most important part is that we are here, together, embracing the love and support of those who mean the most to us.
