You’ll hear very different stories coming from either Juan or I. But I’m the one writing the story, so you’ll hear mine (Megan’s). Juan and I met April of 2010 at a party we had both happened to be at. We always joke how it’s crazy we never met sooner. Juan went to high school in Mt. Vernon only a year ahead of me, and a huge handful of my friends were from the area. It wouldn’t be surprising to see me in the area on a random weekend or going to a game. But the universe had other plans. We some how started talking that night, and he was making me laugh the entire time. Didn’t hurt he was pretty cute as well. We spent the whole rest of the night talking and joking back and forth. Once it was time for Juan to leave he decided to pull me aside and make his move. Or as Juan will say “I knew she was into me so I just leaned in and kissed her”. I’d like to think it was more romantic than that, but cute either way!
Juan is full of surprises and the proposal was no different. When My mother Tami was rediagnosed with cancer, we decided we should rearrange life plans and get married here in South Dakota within a year. We talked to my mom about it and she asked Juan “so are you going to still propose”. At the same time he said “Of course” I said “no, why?”. Thinking I had shot myself in the foot, and wouldn’t be getting a fairy tale proposal, we started the process of looking for a ring and such. Luckily Juan had other plans. On a chilly day in September, I came home to a whole beautiful setup on our balcony. Old farm house doors, a small wooden table, String lights, and his nephew acting as the cutest waiter ever created the scene for “Le Chateau Fancy”. We were served my favorite wine and food with Juan asking me to then turn around and read “Will you Marry Me” Cut out and hung on a string of lights. To say I was surprised is an understatement. It made it all the more real and perfect!
