Our first official meeting was volunteering for South Meck Presbyterian in the summer of 2017. He messaged me on Facebook that afternoon. Little did he know I had a crush on him in high school, but never made a move. Grant moved to Dallas, TX and both of us decided dating was not in the cards at the moment. Over the next 3 years we became best friends, talking on the phone and keeping up with each other's lives. In January of 2020, Grant moved to California to continue his career with Toyota. In April, both of us returned to Charlotte, expecting to only be there for a short time due to COVID. Shortly after returning, Grant asked me on a date. After a 4 hour dinner, we both had a feeling that this was meant to be.
If you know Grant, you know he cannot keep a secret. But.. this was the best kept secret of all time. Grant came to visit me in Birmingham for the week. I went to work like normal on Friday, September 10th. Grant had planned a "dinner" for us that night. When I got home, he was waiting at the door with the biggest grin on his face, hurrying me to get ready for dinner. We got in the car and were on the way to "dinner" only to end up in a residential area of town. I asked "are we lost?" Again, if you know Grant, directions are not his strong suit. He, flustered and nervous, told me to find the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Immediately I knew we were not on the way to dinner. After finding the gardens, walking through them to the most beautiful spot, Grant turned to look at me. He took my hands in his and told me he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. He got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him, which I immediately said YES! And we were engaged! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Charlotte!
