Megan and I were both attending Montana State University. I was a sophomore studying Aviation, and she was a freshman studying Business. She had just joined Delta Gamma, and I was part of Sigma Chi. Our fraternity invited Delta Gamma over for pancakes and mimosas before the Bobcat game. Megan was there dressed as cute as ever, so I went up and introduced myself. We hit it off immediately and hung out most of the day after the Bobcats put on an absolute clinic, winning 52 to 10 against San Diego. Later that night, Sigma Chi hosted a rager as usual, and I pulled some strings so Megan could come. We had a blast running the tables in beer pong, then snuck out back and played HORSE on the basketball hoop about four times. Unfortunately, Megan won every round.
Megan and I did not stay in touch much that semester because we were both busy with our own lives. Megan was settling into college, loving sorority life, and working at a daycare, while I was doing full time flight training and working at the airport as a fueler. Our lives were busy but we still got to see each other here and there through the fun that Fraternity and Sorority offers. One night, I was sitting alone in the frat maus watching the Boston Celtics play while sipping vodka and Arizona iced tea. Like any modern love story, I found out she was single and decided to text her to see if she wanted to hang out. I convinced her to go on a date with me to a place called Mo Bowls, which has since sadly closed. Megan was so awestruck by my good looks and extreme intelligence that she stumbled over her words and felt awkward, which I thought was cute. Megan did not think the date went well, so she called a few days later asking for a do over. We made plans to try again, and on the second date we really hit it off and started hanging out every day after that. I even took her up in an airplane and flew a scenic flight around Bozeman.
Megan and I had been dating consistently for a few months, and I wanted to make things official. The week before Megan became my girlfriend, she planned her first formal ever as DG’s social chair. She asked me if I would be willing to wear a full silver sparkly jacket. I was hesitant about it, but I did it anyway, and I must admit it was not that bad. More importantly, it made her very happy. The next weekend, we had an even better time at the Sigma Chi fall formal up in Big Sky. We had so much fun partying up in Big Sky for the weekend. I knew after that I wanted to ask her to be my girlfriend. I had no elaborate plan, but I knew for some reason she was going to say yes. We went to a lousy pizza place near campus, and I asked her to be my girlfriend. She said yes and then immediately began explaining her Type 1 Diabetes and how to handle high and low blood sugar. She had been waiting until we were official to share all of that information because it was a lot to explain.
Megan and I had a blast dating in college and after I graduated. We had so much fun dating that now we are getting married. Surprise! After I finished working as a flight instructor, I finally got hired at an airline. Airline training meant a lot of time apart, but we pulled through. One thing we both love about the job is the travel aspect. Megan and I have had so many new experiences traveling around the world together. The first place I took Megan was Hawaii, which ended up being incredibly fun. After that, we explored Germany, Austria, France, England, and many other places around the United States. Traveling together has slowly become our favorite hobby to do together. A few months after becoming an airline pilot, Megan and I moved to Missoula to be closer to our families. Since then, we have both graduated with bachelor’s degrees. Megan earned a degree in Business, and I earned a degree in Communications. We are loving life in Missoula and are super excited to start experiencing post grad life together.
After four years of dating Megan, I decided I wanted to propose to her. The problem was that I had no idea how to do it and wanted to make it special. My original plan was to cut down a Christmas tree with her and propose there. Unfortunately, that plan fell apart for multiple reasons. I got super sick, I did not know how to find or cut down a Christmas tree, and I wanted someone there to take pictures. I finally folded and asked her sister for help, and together we came up with a pretty good plan. Megan, her sister, her friend, and I went on a ski trip up to Whitefish Ski Resort. On the third day, we went to Glacier to show her sister’s friend Lake McDonald or so Megan thought. I proposed to Megan on the dock in front of Lake McDonald. I never gave a speech or anything fancy because I was way too nervous, but it ended up working out perfectly. Her parents were hiding in the woods watching, so they got to see the whole thing and surprise her. Afterward, we all went to downtown Whitefish and watched the Bobcats take home the Natty, Go Cats Go! Cheers to forever!
