They first met in 8th grade art class. Carter sat behind Megan and would mess with her hair; in return she would kick him in the shin. They had no way of knowing this was their storybook meet-cute. However, it wasn't until 11th grade, when they were sat next to each other in American Government that they began flirting and then started dating in December of 2018. Everyone thought they were crazy kids and said it was "just puppy love", but they knew from the start, that this was a forever kind of love.

Their proposal date didn't have any special meaning prior to the proposal, so Carter chose it and decided to give it a meaning. Carter took Megan through a walk down memory lane. He planned a whole day of traveling to 5 different significant locations in their relationship and he wrote Megan a letter for each location explaining the importance of it. Location Number One: Ms. Krugers 8th grade art room. In this room is where they exchanged their first laughs. Never in a million years did these two 8th grade kids think the annoying boy who pulled her hair and the violent girl who kicked him in the shins, would promise forever to each other in the end. Location Number Two: Mr. Andersons 11th grade government classroom. 3 years after their original "meet cute", Carter used his boyish humor to make Megan laugh every single day. Carter finally decided to shoot his shot by snapchat messaging Megan with a message that read, "Hey". A man of very few words, you can see why Megan was already smitten. Location Number Three: New Ulm Applebees. This is where Carter took Megan on their very first date. Carter ordered the messiest burger on the menu (he even licked his fingers when he finished), Megan ordered steak and a baked potato; although, she was so nervous she barely touched her food. Carter would tell her later that after the date he felt so ridiculous for ordering something so messy and was only further embarrassed about it when his sister Courtey gave him grief about it when he told her about the date upon getting home. Little did Carter know, Megan took her steak and baked potato home, warmed it up in the microwave, and ate in the dark in her kitchen while tripping over every word she had said on the date. Location Number Four: Lolas Cafe. Lolas was the location of their date when they spoke for the first time about their dreams and aspirations for the future and for themselves. Location Number Five: Ramsey Falls, Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Ramsey Falls was the location of their very first out of town date. Carter brought Megan down to the base of the waterfall, where he had set up a picnic for the two of them. Little did Megan know, Carter had hired a photographer to capture the whole thing! He got down on one knee, and asked her, "Will you marry me?" She shouted, "YES!"
