Things To Do

We want to specially thank everyone who is coming from out of town. It means so much to us to be able to celebrate will all of our family and friends coming from all over. If you are not familiar with Detroit, see below for some recommendations. The following recommendations are organized by attraction, restaurants, and then bars. All places are reachable without a car using either the Detroit People Mover or Q line. The People Mover can be reached from the Greektown Hotel by traveling through the casino or walking outside one block down Monroe Street. The People Mover is free this summer. No payment required to ride. Detroit also now has GEST carts for transportation. It's a free way to get around downtown. You can use it by downloading the GEST app or visit https://www.gestcarts.com/ for more info. Update: The app has been having technical difficulties whenever Austin and I have tried to use it.

Campus Martius Park

800 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226

Park centrally located in the city. One of Detroit's oldest parks and turns into a beach for the summer. Contains a Civil War Memorial, fountain, and restaurants at the coordinate point for all of Detroit. Will include a mini golf course this summer. Within walking distance of Greektown.

Guardian Building

500 Griswold Street, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 963-4567

Schedule a tour or just stop in. This is one of Detroit's famous Art Deco sky scrapers and one of our favorite architectural buildings in the city. Going on a tour you will learn that this building in particular is the only building in the world made out of blood granite from Tunisia. From this building you are also less than a block to The Spirit of Detroit statue, Joe Louis Fist, and Hart Plaza. To get here, take the Detroit People Mover to Financial Center stop.

Detroit River Walk

Detroit RiverWalk, Detroit, MI 48226

Recently named the top rated river walk in the United States. There are various small parks and restaurants along the river walk. From here you can see Belle Isle, the Ambassador Bridge, and Canada! Take the Detroit People Mover to the Renaissance Center to get to the center of the walk.

Parkers Alley

Parkers Alley, Detroit, MI 48226

Shopping, food, coffee etc. Across the street from People Mover 'Broadway' stop or longer walk from Greektown. Very photogenic spot. Austin and I took engagement photos here.

Cannelle Detroit

45 West Grand River Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 694-9767

Megan's favorite place in Detroit! We love Cannelle! French bakery with breakfast croissants, coffee etc. The bakery is named after the cannelle pastry they bake fresh. Their feta tomato basil croissant is really good, or any of the macarons. Great for breakfast/dessert/quick snack and coffee. Take People Mover to Broadway station stop and then one block walk to Cannelle.

Astoria Pastry Shop

541 Monroe Street, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 963-9603

Greek pastry shop in Greektown. Right by the Greektown hotel. Also has coffee. Gets extremely crowded weekend evenings.

Iggy's Eggies

34 W Grand River, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 782-4189

Great for a quick breakfast. Walk-up breakfast sandwich window. Close to Broadway People Mover station.

The Greek

535 Monroe Street, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 209-6667

Greek food in Greektown! One of the original restaurants of the area. Extremely convenient walking distance to Greektown Casino Hotel.

Buddy's Pizza

1565 Broadway Street, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 765-1500

Buddy's Pizza is one of the original Detroit style pizza joints. Take the Detroit People Mover to the Grand Circus Park stop.

San Morello

1400 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 209-4700

Great Italian food and our favorite restaurant on Woodward Avenue. Has options for casual as well as fancier dining. Really nice outdoor seating. Great wine. **We recommend getting a reservation before arriving.** Take the Detroit People Mover to the Broadway stop.

Standby

225 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226
, (313) 241-5719

Great cocktail bar with speakeasy atmosphere. Take the Detroit People Mover to the Cadillac Square stop

For all the days along the way
