Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Megan Schiffhauer and Alex Reeser
DC has so much history. The Smithsonians and monuments are wonderful and worth seeing. But there are places that we love that are a little off the beaten path. Here are a few we recommend.

Heurich House Museum

1307 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20036

Christian Heurich was the first DC brewer. This was the house that he built for himself and he would walk to his brewery everyday until he died at 105 yrs old. The brewery location is now the Kennedy Center. When we lived down the street we would come here a million times. We believe that Alex could be the reincarnate of Christian Heurich.

Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens

4155 Linnean Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20008

We've actually never been here but it's on our bucket list. Would love to know your thoughts if you go!

Dumbarton Oaks Gardens

1703 32nd Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20007

We went here for Valentine's Day our first year that we lived in DC. The gardens are beautiful and we've been back several times since.

Rock Creek Park

Washington, DC

A great get away spot to walk/hike but still stay in the city. Parts of Beach Dr are closed to cars so you can walk freely in the road. There are also trails in the woods that can give you a great way to burn some calories for dinner later ;)

7th Street Northwest

7th Street Northwest, Washington, DC

Open Streets is a DC initiative where they close a major corridor to traffic and let the public enjoy the community for all that it is. Alex and I love Open Streets. We try to attend each one. One is occurring on our actual wedding day right in front of the venue. Enjoy the local food, music, events, and DC locals. 9am-3pm.
