We first met in the Spring of 2018 in a speech class we had together. We were both enthused with the topics each other talked about (Megan still talks about a speech Alex gave on board games). Throughout college, we had off and on interactions, in classes and extracurriculars, always keeping a tab on one another because something was just different about them.
Years after college, we reconnected after some intermingled interactions on social media. After some weeks of talking, Alex shot his shot and made the two hour drive to take Megan out on a date. Instantly, we hit it off and couldn't wait to go out on that second date. Our second date, we went all around Columbia, searching for extra things to do so we had an excuse to keep spending time together! After a few short months of dating, it became clear what this was for the both of us, and we decided that this was the person we were going to spend the rest of our lives with!
Alex put the utmost effort into making it a surprise, convincing Megan that he had ordered a ring, but it was weeks away from getting delivered. While she was visiting him, it was delivered, she signed for it, having no idea what was coming. We went out to downtown Charleston with Megan's sister and brother-in-law. The next day, both families came down to see the event! It was a lovely 75° day, January 1st 2022, at White Point Gardens at the Battery in Charleston. Megan was under the impression that we were going to enjoy a picnic in the garden and then visit an art museum. The entire way, Alex was so nervous, trying to talk about all the architecture and history of the streets they were walking in an attempt to not give away what was really going on. They finally reached the park, laid down the blanket, and without wasting a moment, Alex got down on one knee and asked a question that would change their lives forever.
